GIA LABORATORY REPORTS
GIA is the world's foremost authority on Gemstones. They established the International Diamond Grading System from 1940 to 1953.
The success of this system has helped diamond manufacturers, dealers, and buyers to communicate on the same level. GIA issues Diamond Grading Reports for diamonds that examine the 4 C's and beyond. Their laboratory report also contains a plot, or map of the inside of your diamond. This is similar to a snowflake pattern; each diamond has its own fingerprint.
A GIA Diamond Grading Report secures the value of your gemstone by identifying and assigning an irrefutable grade to it. A GIA Graduate Gemologist can then use that grade to evaluate and price your gemstone.

Laser Inscriptions
Along with a plot, GIA can also laser inscribe a serial number on the Girdle. This quickly confirms the diamond is yours under the microscope. The inscription is superficial and etched close to the surface so that it can be polished off if necessary. This is why it is also important to have a diamond plot, or map of the inclusions.
